Cruise Travel Insurance

Information on Cruise Travel Insurance

As its name suggests, cruise travel insurance is a travel insurance policy specifically designed for people going on a cruise.

Unlike other types of travel insurance, where the premium is usually rated on the length of time that the trip will take, cruise travel insurance is rated mainly on the cost of the cruise.

This means, for instance, that instead of a maximum £5,000 cancellation limit, cruise travel insurance will cover people up to £10,000 for the cost of the cruise. There are obviously some benefits - a cruise liner will have a well-equipped hospital providing emergency treatments so most claims for medical treatment will be minor. However if the illness is severe, the cost of arranging emergency medical evacuation from the ship will be expensive - thus cruise travel insurance does depend on the ages of the travellers.

The price of a cruise depends partially on the length of the cruise so the actual length of the cruise is not a factor in the price of insurance and since many people on a cruise are relatively old a cruise travel insurance policy will normally cover people up to 85 - or older as standard.
